My journey to Drop-shipping

I’m new to the world of Online Business. I’ve been learning from different places online how to create a Drop-shipping business. I’ve created a website on Shopify.com called www.effectswear.com.

Drop shipping is defined as:

move (goods) from the manufacturer directly to the retailer without going through the usual distribution channels. “the shopping network has begun drop-shipping orders taken by telephone or over the Internet”

Understanding Dropshipping from Shopify

If you want to do Drop-shipping, find out who you want to market to, figure out which niche has potential for customers, usually a hobby you know about and can blog about on your site where you can post your related products. My niche for the FX Wear website are techno-geeks, digital artists and gamers, since I’m really into VFX and Motion graphics. I found a really cool shirt from a Wholesaler for around $5 or so US dollars. I just ordered one for my self, cause I really like it and can use it in my own promotional videos for it. It’s a Commodore 64 shirt, we used to have a Commodore 128 and have great memories of it, such as playing around in Basic program language, playing games like Zach McKraken and the Alien Mind Benders and a Text Based Hobbit role playing game, man were they fun to play, haha. So I’ve got an emotional attachment to Commodore and I think many other people from the 80s do as well who had the 128 or 64 computer.

These are the steps I will take to try to sell more items with my online store, specifically this Commodore 64 shirt.

  1. First step was to create my store on Shopify.com, which I made already. *If you click the link and open your own store, I’ll get a small fee for mentioning them, cause I’m an affiliate, so if you do, it helps a lot and I appreciate it, plus you’ll be starting your own awesome online business.
  2. I’ve got some items for sale there, some of the shirts come from Printful.com where you can put your own custom designs on products that you can integrate with Shopify.
  3. My V.A found on AliExpress the cool Commodore 64 shirt…I found out about 4 Wholesale sites you can drop-ship from, comment below if you know more of them.

A) — AliExpress

B) — DH Gate

C) — Light in the Box

D) — Chinavasion

  1. ← — — dammit!!!…this 1 is supposed to be a 4…how the heck do I make it a 4? Anyway…just pretend it’s number 4, ok? ;) Ok..so 1st thing…i mean 4th thing I will do is I will have some money at the end of this month…I will buy 5 small, 10 medium and 10 large Commodore shirts. I learned from Jeff the Liquidator that it’s always best to only buy if there’s many sizes and designs. So I will buy 25 of them x $5.85usd = $146.25usd all in just one colour I think many people will like. Yes, I put a u in colour, cause I’m a Canucklehead aka Canadian. ;)
  2. I’ll then take a screen grab of that shirt and put it on my FX Wear website that’s on Shopify. I’ll make it so only that one colour is available to buy from my store.
  3. I will then contact Amazon FBA, which is Fullfilment by Amazon, where you can store your products in their warehouses and when someone orders from your Shopify store you can ship that product from Amazon FBA warehouse because it’s way faster shipping than shipping from AliExpress which takes them around 30 to 60 days to ship a product. Customers want their product right away, so I think it’s best to have a few of your products already available at an Amazon FBA warehouse, their shipping takes 2 to 5 days.
  4. Then I can make a Video ad with me or someone wearing the Commodore shirt i bought that I can turn into a Video FB ad…but before making it a FB video ad, I think I will start with posting it on local buy and sell groups that are near my town so not so many people will buy, because I will only have 25 shirts available. They say to markup ur products by around 4x or so I think…so I will sell them for $5.85 x 4 = around $23.40/shirt…which is a profit of $17.55 if I sell all 25 shirts I will make $438.75. I will have to enter Amazon FBA address when I order the shirts from AliExpress so they can be stored there to speed up the shipping when I customer orders…hopefully orders.
  5. The next month, I’ll then use some of that to buy twice as many shirts, 50 shirts and do it all over again. 50 shirts x $5.85 = $292.50 for all 50 shirts. When i sell all 50 shirts it will be Gross of $1,170.00 so minus the cost of $292.50 from that and get a Net Profit of $877.50.
  6. Then the next month, I’ll use some of that profit to buy 100 shirts and make sure to put Amazon FBA address so the shirts can be stored there again. It will cost $585 for all 100 shirts, making sure i get a variety of sizes. When i sell all 100 shirts it will be a gross of $2,340 — $585 which is a net profit of $1,755.00
  7. If it works well, I’ll keep increasing the amounts of shirts to buy and sell. Not sure if this is the best way to do it and to scale up. If you know of a better way of doing it, please comment below.

This is what I will attempt to do with my side online business FX Wear in the next coming months to try to make more money to be able to sponsor my Wife to move to Canada and be able to better support her and the kids. Hope this helps you if you’re interested in starting Drop-shipping too. シ
